He moved to Sumner, IL in 1876.
Brad Ashbaugh9 (Isaac8, Chester7, Isaac6, James Saxton5, Andrew4, John3, Henry2, Alcase1) stated in 1999, "I am sure that Madison was born in Perry Cty, OH. I don't have any source record, but his parents probably got out of the country rarely through their whole lives. All of the children grew up near here. The log house where they were children is still standing and looks better today than when I was a child. It is in Monday Creek Township, and my great grandmother ws the girl next door! Her house looks great too. Five straight generations of my branch lived in a log house about three miles north of there, including Isaac E. (Mad's brother), Chester A., Isaac D., me, and my son, Mike. Most of Uncle Mad's siblings married people from this area, and many of the descendants are around the same neck of the woods today."
According to Stella's letter to Tillie, dated January of 1942, he was the only one of James Madison Ashbaugh's children still living in Sumner, Lawrence Cty, IL. He lived a lone in a small cottage.
According to Stella, in 01/1942 she lived in Caseyville, IL
Occupation: She worked at the Alcoa Company in St. Louis as a private secretary for the president and was there a number of years.
