Descendants of Johann Heinrich ESCHBACH

Notes

425. Elvinah (Muzzy) BOLEN

THE WORK ON THIS LINE COMES PRIMARILY FROM THE WORK OF FRED SHRINER
AND MRS. (LEE) LOUISE EVELHOCH.
During the Civil War, Muzzy was at home with her children while her
husband, William was fighting for the Union Army. At one point a unit
of Confederate soldiers came to their home, raided the outdoor bake
oven and then entered their home. Muzzy is to have told them that
they could have any food they found there but to leave their
possessions alone. She may have made reference to her wedding gown
and also the recently purchased wooden chairs. One soldier
deliberately tore her dress in pieces. Another, while looking for
food, stood on one of the chairs in order to look in the upper part of
the cupboard. He did find some dried elderberries which he poured on
the chair seats and then proceeded to grind them in with his boots.
He also used his spurs on the chair. It is said that Muzzy got after
him with a broom. Fred Shriner now has two of these chairs given to
him by Elizabeth Reeder Nispel. They had been refinished by her
father, John Reeder, to remove the damaged seats.

426. William BOLEN

The Sentinel--Civil War Veteran Dies--Wm Bolen, Civil War Veteran,
died about 9:30 o'clock Tuesday night at his daughter's home, Mrs.
Jane Kingsborough in Middlesex Twp. (Correction: William died at the
home of his daughter, Bertha Bolen Kingsborough, with whom he had
lived. --RLD). Born Nov. 15, 1838, he served 3 years with Co.G, 138th
Regt., PA Volunteers during the Civil War.

984. Clara STEVENS

Clara never married.

985. Mary E. (Molly) STEVENS

Molly never married.
While still small, Fred Shriner reports that his family would visit
Molly and her sister. Molly told him that she could cast spells on
people. There is a family story of such a "spell."

430. John Dyson BOLEN

THE INFORMATION ON THIS LINE COMES PRIMARILY FROM THE COMBINED EFFORTS
OF MRS. (EUGENE) MARIAN BOLEN AND MRS. (DONALD) DOROTHY BOLEN.
John and Lavina had 2 children who died at birth.

999. Clara May BOLEN

Clara had no children.

1002. Dean BOLEN Henry

Dean and Inez? had no children.

432. Leander (Lee) BOLEN

Previous to this he had lived on his property in Upper Mifflin Twp.
His daughter Elsie lived with him. It is said that each of them had
their own chickens and were quite protective of their eggs. Lee came
to the conclusion that Elsie was stealing some of his eggs. The
thieft was taking place in his collection area -- a lard can in the
shadows of the feed entry. He placed a rat trap in the bottom of the
can and waited for the results. Fortunately, Elsie did not get
"caught" -- it might have broken her fingers. But the tension was too
great. Lee sold his farm to his son, Bill, and Elsie had to get out.

According to a family story, Lee was shot from outside the window of
his home near Mt. Tabor. At the time he was pealing apple snits.
Many believed that it was done by a person named Weimerpool; a boarder
of the Woodward Family. (Just recently this information has been
questioned. Lee's grand-daughter said that he did not die from the
gunshot wound. When Wilbur returned from Illinois (CA 1930), the
shooting incident had already occurred.) At the time of his death he
was living with his son, Wilbur and his family. Several of the
children had typhoid. Is it possible that this was the reason for his
sudden death?)
