Notes

685. Edwin ASHBAUGH

Some family members of today originally thought his name to be Edwin.
They lived in Lawrenceville and then moved to Seattle, WA in 1933. They had 3 children.
In a letter dated 01/29/1942 to Tillie, Stella states they heard through cousins, the Welbs, via Stella Klingler, via Lois Arthur about the death of Homer. Stella Ashbaugh (wife of Ed) had written Homer a number of times asking him to come home prior to Laura dying but he never replied in return. She and her husband ran a business in Lawrenceville that failed after eleven years due to the depression. After moving to Seattle, WA Ed taught for three years and she taught steadily to the time of the letter. She states she graduated from Southern Illinois Normal School in 1913 but had to go back to college to get her teaching certificate updated before teaching in Washington state. She further states that she was 54 and Ed 57 in 1942. Ed worked for the state as a highway inspector. They had an 8-1/2 acre ranch located on Lake Meridian and raised chickens. They sold eggs for .45 to .50 per dozen. Their locality was known as Meridian Heights and they lived in a nine-room house; mailing address was Kent, WA, R#1.

Celestia went by the name of "Tillman" or "Tillie".
After Homer's death she lived with her son Donald and his wife their entire married life. When her health began to fail she was sent to live with her daughter in St. Louis, MO and died there one year prior to her son's death.
