Harley Friend abandoned his family in 1925. One day he left home for work and disappeared. Nobody knew where Harley was until 1927 when he wrote from France to say he was coming home. Harley's wife, Henrietta, had divorced him and placed their children in the St. Francis Orphans Home, Tiffin, Ohio. Henrietta was pregnant with their fourth child when Harley disappeared. She was persuaded to give her baby son up for adoption.

Buried in same grave as Clara, at Olivett Memorial Park, San Mateo Co., CA. Cremated. No grave marker.
Had a stroke while we were crossing the golden gate bridge. Was taken to Mendocino State Hospital at Talmadge, CA, where he died some time later. Earl and his brother Raymond ran a garage in the downstairs section of Elizabeth Culp's two story house on Army Street in San Francisco. The depression caused them to close the business. The house was torn down in order to extend South VanNess Avenue to Army Street.
Earl worked for Harris Lumber Co. in San Francisco when he was married.
Magda lived in Rescue with her grandparents most of her life until she was married.
